“I want glamorous and cool”, “I want comfortable”. That had been the struggle between the clients on this project. “Why not have both'', I offered with a compromise that gave the best of both worlds: a sophisticated color scheme and the most comfortable upholstery.
Beyond the stylistic requirements, this project required a bit of floor plan Jenga to achieve the results our clients were looking for – after coming from a smaller very traditional Tudor-style home, they were looking for more open spaces that would allow for easier entertaining on a larger scale. Removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room created one large space for casual entertaining with double marble-topped islands and access to the outdoors. The second big shift was to move the master bedroom so that space could become the formal dining room, with direct access to the kitchen and walls of storage cleverly concealed in the wall paneling, allowing for easy access to our clients' ever-growing collection of China and glassware.
